5 Days Gorilla & Wildlife Safari

Day One:  Depart from Kampala very early in morning for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for the most adventurous mountain gorilla tracking. Take a glance at the gorillas in their natural settingIt’s all amazing as you prepare for this  tour to the western part of Uganda. Have lunch in Mbarara and proceed to Bwindi, the journey is exciting as you will enjoy the countryside of Uganda. You will see people farming and others looking after cattle, the physical features will leave you wondering until you get to Bwindi. As you get close to the impenetrable forest, you will feel the sudden change in climate and surely appreciate the natural beauty of Uganda and why it’s was called the pearl of Africa. Day Two:  Wake up early morning and right away have breakfast. Proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Headquarters for an orientation about gorilla tracking in Bwindi. The gorillas have families and these include Rushegura, Kyaguriro, Oruzogo, Nshongi, Habinyanja, Kahungye, Nkuringo, Mubare and Bitukura.You are split into groups depending on the one you are assigned and off you head for gorilla tracking with rangers. Hiking through the forest is quite exciting because you will come along different kinds of species like birds, mammals, butterflies, primates; flora and fauna; all these will prepare you to meet the gorillas.

Some level of physical fitness is required as you hike the mountain. Just in case you get tired, there are porters that will carry you at a fee. However getting a chance to confront the great mountain gorillas is fulfilling and worth the hike. You are advised to watch them at a distance of 5 meters. From this point, you can see the gorillas doing their daily routine work, the mothers feeding their young ones, some playing and others resting. The actual moment is breathtaking, you are allowed to take photos but remember to remove the flash light. Children below the age of 15 are not allowed to track the gorillas, elderly people can as well track the gorillas and the group that is easily seen is the Rushegura group. No one should ever tell you that gorillas are found in zoos, there are only found in Africa and a small number of them is still surviving in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo.

After a memorable time with the gorillas, return to the headquarters and depending on your energy levels, you may decide to go for the village walk. You will see the Batwa people known as the pygmies. These people will surely conclude your stay in Bwindi, you will enjoy their traditional ways and how they survive in this area. You will get an opportunity to see how they make their local brew, visit the community school, women handcraft shop and still delight in meeting their traditional healer. Men, women and children will be happy to entertain you with their cultural dance. You will appreciate their culture and this will be worth your safari in Bwindi.

Day Three: Early morning, have breakfast and proceed to the magnificent Lake Bunyonyi. Lonely Planet describes this lake as a sight out of Enjoy a wonderful view of Lake BunyonyiLord of the Rings. In Africa, it’s the deepest second lake with lots of crayfish which simply means to prepare a cookery enchantment. This short distance from Bwindi is eye-catching, you can stop the vehicle at any time to take pictures and still get a closer look at nature at its best. Check in to your preferred lodge and have lunch. These range from super luxury, luxury, moderate and budget. You will enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Bunyonyi and the Islands that surround it. You will get a chance to see the punishment island, where girls that had sex before marriage were thrown as a penalty for the rest to learn a lesson. Among the activities to do include canoeing, swimming in a Bilharzia free lake, nature walk, relaxing and bird watching. After a wonderful day, return to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day Four: Have breakfast and set off for Lake Mburo. While on this safari, you will explore the Alps of Africa. The scenery is eye-catching in the ever green vegetation of Africa. We arrive and check in to your desired lodge and have lunch. The afternoon is set for the boat cruise on Lake Mburo; you will see large concentrations of hippos chilling in the water and crocodiles basking in the sun. Other animals will be seen on land as they graze. After an exciting ride, you proceed for a guided nature walk. You will see antelopes, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, waterbucks and different kinds of bird species. Return to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day Five: Have an early morning breakfast and get ready for the game drive. As you drive through the savannah, you will see early morning risers and some retiring to go and rest. It’s the best time to see big numbers of animals roaming around the park. If you want, you may opt for a horseback safari and see animals at a closer range. Have lunch at your lodge  and leave for Kampala, you will stop by the Equator and take some memorable photos, visit the craft shops and the next stop will be at Buganda Royal Drum Makers where you can buy for yourself a souvenir. Arrive in Kampala later afternoon and check in your lodge or depart for Entebbe Airport for your flight. If you still have time, you can opt for nightlife in Kampala. Visit different clubs, bars and listen to all kinds of music. The people are friendly and party all night. Our guide will be available to drive you back to your lodge either to rest or get ready for your flight.
